Invisalign vs. Traditional Braces Yukon

Invisalign VS. Traditional Braces

Dental patients have greatly benefited from the advances in dental technology. If asked what they thought to be the greatest dental advance so far, patients would have a variety of responses, but most orthodontic patients would say Invisalign. This treatment has been available to dental patients since May of 2000 and has improved more than two million smiles.

Dr. Rykard wants all of his patients to be able to smile with confidence and he knows that Invisalign is a wonderful option for treating orthodontic issues. Invisalign offers patients a number of benefits that are not possible with metal braces including:

  • Cosmetic benefits – Invisalign uses clear aligner trays, rather than having metal “train tracks” on your teeth. Patients’ orthodontic issues are addressed discretely. Friends, family, and co-workers will not notice your orthodontic treatment; all they will notice is your smile.
  • Convenience – Many patients who have traditional metal braces have to see their dentist every two weeks. Patients who have Invisalign only have to come in to our office every six to eight weeks for a quick checkup and to receive their next batch of aligner trays. Each set will be worn for two weeks before moving on to the next in the series.
  • Hygiene – Traditional metal braces are difficult to keep clean. Food particles and plaque get trapped by the brackets and wires increasing the risk of cavities and gum disease. Invisalign aligners are removed when you clean your teeth or eat or drink anything other than water, so there is nothing to trap food and you care for your teeth the same way you always have. Although you will need to brush your teeth every time, you eat.
  • Comfort – One of the most common complaints from patients who have traditional braces is the brackets and wires cutting and abrading the insides of their cheeks and lips. This is not a problem with Invisalign the plastic trays are smooth and so there is nothing to damage the soft tissue in patients’ mouths.
